Creative Technologies
VFX Research
We have a dedicated R&D department to keep us on the cutting edge of all things VFX, engaging with the latest developments from across the industry.
Our specialist knowledge allows us to perform volumetric capture with neural radiance fields, and work with procedurally generated 3D environments and effects. We are able to train bespoke AI models as well as use AI to assist in tasks such as deepfaking, restoring archival footage and asset creation.
As part of our R&D at Lux Aeterna, we work with the University of Bristol’s MyWorld programme, which supports innovation in the VFX and creative production industries in the Southwest of England.
Working with partners like the BBC and Aardman, the programme aims to embed a culture of R&D innovation across the region by funding collaborative projects between local industry and academic partners.
World-Class Facilities
Lux Aeterna has protocols and structures within the company to manage large-scale productions.
A dedicated production crew, experienced VFX supervisors, and specialist artists work within a rigorous shot management framework.
Our on-prem facilities include dedicated CPU and GPU rendering, and our efficient and robust IT framework is designed for complex simulation and rendering challenges. During busy times and for urgent requirements, AWS Cloud rendering is integrated into our infrastructure to supplement capacity.
We also manage and secure asset management, shot tracking, scheduling, and client review using the latest AI-backed security.
World-Class Pipeline
Lux Aeterna has a bespoke shot management and review pipeline and has asset-managed pipelines for Houdini, Maya, and Nuke. With innovation at the core of everything we do, the only constant is change.

Photogrammetry
Lux Aeterna has an experienced photogrammetry team working at various scales, from macro flower heads to kilometre-square dune fields. Photogrammetry is a powerful tool that brings environments and sequences to life.
LiDAR
We have the experience and pipelines to capture and ingest super-high-resolution LiDAR datasets, with LiDAR capture becoming a standard component in today’s VFX pipelines.
Motion Capture
Nothing moves faster than the development of motion capture. Our team collaborates closely with the ‘Centre for the Analysis of Motion, Entertainment Research, and Applications’ (CAMERA) to understand these developments and implement the best solutions for your project.
Machine Learning and AI
From in-painting to concept development, AI is now an integral technology within the VFX industry. Our AI research team constantly innovates, empowering artists and bringing new techniques to the storytelling process.
Large format and stereoscopic productions
From the smallest screens to the biggest, our creative team can output large-format, stereoscopic scenes in beautifully rendered dual-eye 8K and in real-time using Unreal and Unity.
VR and Augmented Reality
Our immersive team has produced beautifully crafted interactive experiences in VR, from re-living the work of the artist René Magritte to sharing the womb with an unborn child.
We offer a creative partnership with clients who have compelling stories to tell, transcending the threshold of the imagination to create pure cinematic wonder.
