Mammals

From the grand Blue Whale to the miniscule Etruscan Shrew, mammals are some of the most diverse creatures on earth. But how did they come to occupy every corner of the globe, what unites, and what divides them? This is what Sir David Attenborough sets out to uncover in this fascinating new BBC series, Mammals. Covering vast landscapes and hidden habitats, Mammals is a visual delight and a series not to be missed.

Lux Aeterna completed title sequences, graphics and VFX work for the 6-part series. Stunning visual effects crafted in Houdini and Nuke were used to create the pre-titles cosmic collision. This photo realistic recreation of the asteroid strike demonstrates what is thought to have been the cause of the extinction of the dinosaurs, and catalyst for the rise of mammals.

Audiences are further brought into the stories through the use of content graphics that visualise something that can’t always be captured on camera; from a bat’s echolocation visualisation, to satellite views showing the diversion of water for harvesting and the impact it has for mammals.

In addition to this a breath-taking ice age simulation was created in Houdini to further illustrate the remarkable changes that the earth has gone through since the rise of mammals.
